The Loft Conversion Process

01

The First Step in your loft conversion

When you initially contact us, we will send one of our surveyors out free of charge to discuss your requirements, assess your attic space and advise on the best options for your loft conversion, taking into consideration the space and your needs. Then following our visit, we will provide you with a free written quotation for your loft conversion.

02

Planning for your loft conversion

You may not be aware that most loft conversions don’t need planning permission unless you have ambitious plans and have already consulted an architect who will handle the planning aspect of the project. We are happy to work alongside your architect on your loft conversion.

03

Building Regulations and Party Wall agreements for attic conversions

All loft and attic conversions are covered by building regulation, but you don’t have to worry about this as we make all the necessary submissions for your loft conversion to the local authorities, on your behalf. The role of the Building Inspector is to ensure that any extensions, including loft and attic conversions, are built in line with current building regulations, so a big part of our job is to ensure that we build your new bedroom, bathroom or workspace keeping these regulations in mind and making sure you get a safe and secure home.

04

How long does it take for a loft conversion?

In general, a loft conversion can be completed in six weeks. You can break the loft conversion process into the following sections:

Weeks 1 and 2: The scaffolding will go up and the main structure of the loft conversion will be built.

Week 3: The first fix on electrics and plumbing is carried out and insulation is installed.

Week 4: The stairs to your loft conversion, the floor and plasterboard are installed.

Week 5:  The loft space is plastered. .

Week 6: Second fix electrics, plumbing, and carpentry work are completed and then we take all the scaffolding down, clean the site up and remove all building waste from you property.

05

Avoiding noise and mess whilst undertaking your loft conversion

One of the most common complaints about builders is noise, mess and disruption to your lives, but we fully understand that this is your home and we want the building process to be something you’re excited about, not dreading, and of course we want you to recommend us to your friends. We know you won’t do this if we disrupt your lives, make a mess and are unduly noisy, so with this in mind we try where possible to access your roof from the scaffold, we put dust sheets down and hoover every night and we try and work as quietly as possible so as not to disturb your lives and your neighbour’s lives.

06

Management of your loft conversion

You will have a project manager on site everyday to keep an eye on your loft conversion. He will be happy to discuss any developments with you. As we arrive at 8am every day, most people find it convenient to discuss any concerns or requirements first thing in the morning.
